In the heart of Chicago, Millennium Park is a 24.5 acre oasis that combines an ice skating rink; sculptures; performance areas; monuments; gardens; fountains; and plenty of open space. Chicagoans lace up their skates and take a whirl around the McCormick Tribune Ice Rink. Skaters enjoy a spectacular view of architecture along Micghigan Ave, aka "The Magnificant Mile." Both natives and tourists stand under "Cloud Gate," a stainless steel sculpture by Anish Kapoor commonly referred to as "The Bean," because of it's resemblence to a kidney bean. The reflections on the underside of the sculpture give off a fun-house mirror effect, which you can see in one of the shots in the gallery. The Jay Pritzer Pavillion, with its 120-foot high stainless steel waves, was designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry, and serves as as outdoor concert hall in the warm weather months. Just a few blocks away is the famed Chicago Theatre, a national historic landmark that has hosted performers since 1921. Flip through our photos for more scenes from the the Windy City.
