Learning Experience

The University of Wisconsin-Madison offers its DPT students the unique opportunity to pursue a clinical rotation in Africa.  Last year, the first batch of five students, along with their clinical instructor, Karen Patterson, PT, MS, PCS traveled to Kampala, Uganda, and this May, eight different students and Patterson will make the journey.  While in Uganda in 2010, the students worked with the physical therapists at Mulago Hospital, treating orthopedic, oncology and neurology patients. They also worked at Providence Home for children and adults with disabilities and with a community-based rehabiliation program, providing out-patient and home-based therapies to a greatly underserved population. To learn more about the impact of the experience, read "Learning Experience" in the Student and New Grad Center.
