An ongoing driver safety program in Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey is cautioning teens against the dangers of drinking and driving or texting and driving. The series is called "Cruisin' Not Boozin'" (CNB) and is a community outreach program developed by Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital in Malvern, Pa. Organizers  hope  to prevent auto accident-related injuries and deaths-both of which rank high among the nation's teenagers. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that one in three teenage deaths are the result of motor vehicle accidents and over 350,000 teens in one year are treated in emergency departments for motor vehicle-related injuries.  Before you get behind the wheel again, watch our video featuring CNB speakers who recount the accidents that changed their lives forever.

We have had the CNB presentation on campus for several years and it has been seen by nearly 1000 tenth grade students. Many have related to me how their decision making has been and will be effected by what they have seen and heard.

Well done! We, as physical therapists, are positioned well to provide these public health messages. We see the aftermath, we rehabilitate the injured, and we know the physical, emotional, and financial costs of these behaviors.

Chronic diseases and accidents are the big killers now, not infectious diseases. We deal with most of them and could play a bigger role in their prevention. I'm really glad to see this here.

Cheers, Dean
