A newly renovated, state-of-the-art rehabilitation research facility opened its doors in the Department of Science and Research within the College of Health Professions at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, SC, in May 2011. The facility's research is focused on theory-based evaluation and treatment of persons with neurologic impairments, with current strengths in the post-stroke and spinal cord injured populations.
The studies of evaluation and treatment at The Center for Rehabilitation Research in Neurological Conditions are based on developing a theoretical framework for normal and impaired mechanisms of both control of movement and acquisition of motor behavior.
With recent progress in technology and neurosciences, rehabilitation research has advanced to new heights. Now that technology offers ways to study the brain in real time, researchers can begin to answer questions that would improve the effectiveness of therapy. Join us as we speak to a few of the researchers in the new and approved lab spaces at MUSC.
