Catapang Named 'Health Care Champion'

SPRINGFIELD, MO -- Springfield Business Journal has named Gerry Catapang, DPT, owner of Physical Therapy Care, Manual Physical Therapy and Industrial Rehab Center PC, a "Health Care Champion" honoree.

Catapang told the SBJ that his practices deal largely -- about 40 percent -- in treating patients referred through workers' compensation claims.

"Dealing with workers' compensation is really a challenging field," Catapang stated in the article. "Some doctors don't want to treat workers' compensation patients. It just so happens that because of our background in physical therapy and pain management, we are able to help workers return to work at the earliest possible time."

Catapang says a majority of referrals to his clinics are for neck and back issues. In 2007, he added a workers' compensation claims prevention division to the Physical Therapy Care clinic.

"We realized that treatments for these kinds of patients are good, but more important is injury prevention," Catapang says. "We actually deal with ... the treatments for the injured worker, helping them return to work ... and of course, helping the company decrease their claims for workers' compensation."

Catapang is a master golf performance specialist through Texas-based GoLo Golf Performance.

Catapang dedicates about 10 percent of his work time toward providing free physical therapy for the poor and homeless via The Kitchen Inc. He's been aiding the nonprofit for more than a decade, according to the article.

"That's the best way we can serve the community is to help some of our less fortunate brothers and sisters who need physical therapy," he says.

Catapang earned his DPT at the University of St. Augustine, his bachelor's in medical technology at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines, and his bachelor's in physical therapy at the University of Perpetual Help System College of Medicine in Laguna, Philippines.

He is currently pursuing a PhD in physical therapy through Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
