Print ArticleEmail Article

Harcum College in Bryn Mawr, PA, announced July 25 that its physical therapist assistant (PTA) program's class of 2010 achieved a 100-percent first-time pass rate on the PTA licensing exam. This puts the program at a 3-year average first-time pass rate of 100 percent, according to the college.

In 2008, 7 out of 7 Harcum PTA students achieved a first time pass rate of 100 percent, with a state average of 69 percent and a national average of 81.36 percent. In 2009, 11 out of 11 students passed the exam on the first attempt, with a state average of 79.22 percent and a national average of 83.11 percent. Though no local and national data has been released for 2010, 11 out of 11 Harcum students recently passed the exam on the first attempt.

"I am extremely proud of the efforts of the students, who have applied themselves consistently during a very rigorous and challenging 2-year curriculum," said Jacki Klaczak Kopack, PTA program director. "I am equally proud of the ongoing efforts of our full time and adjunct faculty team."

Upon graduation from Harcum College's PTA program, 100 percent of graduates find employment, according to the college. Physical therapist assistants use therapeutic exercise and activities to treat and restore human function under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist.

Harcum College was founded in Bryn Mawr, PA in 1915 and was the first college in Pennsylvania chartered by the state to grant associate degrees. Harcum offers fully accredited, career-ready majors in nursing, the allied health professions, business and human services on campus, online, and regionally, as well as lifelong learning programs and corporate training.
