Michigan Rehabilitation Network Named 'Deal of the Year'

GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- The new Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Network has been recognized as the Health Care "Deal of the Year" by Business Review West Michigan.

Mary Free Bed was among the organizations and business leaders honored during a special reception to recognize "game-changing" people and events in 2011. Twenty-two deals in six categories were nominated for consideration.

The hospital was recognized for starting the Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Network in June 2011. The network is an alliance of hospitals and providers formally integrated with an independent Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital. The network is designed to create a seamlessly integrated system of rehabilitative care for patients. Members include Metro Health Hospital, Providence Zeeland, Porter Hills, Pilgrim Manor and Beacon Hill at Eastgate.

"We are extremely gratified to be recognized by Business Review for our launch of a statewide network that will expand rehabilitative care to patients around Michigan," said Mary Free Bed CEO Kent Riddle. "Our new network allows us to establish formal relationships with hospitals and health systems, long-term care facilities and referring physicians that will extend our brand throughout the state. We have already begun to add new jobs because of the network and look forward to continued growth and expansion."

Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital currently serves patients from throughout the state and surrounding areas through inpatient and outpatient programs focused on brain injury, stroke recovery, orthopedic, amputee, spinal cord injury and related physiological and neurological areas.

Founded more than 100 years ago, Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital is an 80-bed, not-for-profit, acute rehabilitation center offering comprehensive inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation for children and adults. In 2011, the organization launched the Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Network, an alliance of hospitals and providers designed to provide rehabilitation care for patients and families throughout Michigan.
