MARIETTA, GA -- WellStar Health System has purchased OrthoSport Physical Therapy for $3.4 million, and will combine OrthoSport's three branches with WellStar's current outpatient rehabilitation services.
OrthoSport, which was established in 2002 and has offices in Kennesaw, Marietta and Woodstock, GA, is now under the purview of WellStar Chief Operating Officer Michael Graue, but will be run by OrthoSport's former owner Kim Chastain, WellStar spokesman Keith Bowermaster said. Chastain is now the executive director of outpatient rehabilitation services at WellStar.
OrthoSport employs more than 20 people, Chastain said, and all current employees will keep their jobs. Branch offices will retain the OrthoSport name until WellStar officials decide to rebrand them, said Chris Kane, WellStar's senior vice president for strategic business development.
Kane said WellStar does not expect to change OrthoSport's prices for services.
Bowermaster said the acquisition enables WellStar to expand the therapies and programs it offers to include aquatic therapy, sports medicine, work injury management, spinal rehabilitation, vestibular and dry needling programs. With Chastain at the helm, the system's outpatient rehabilitation services will now be managed by one team at WellStar, Kane said.
Kane said WellStar offers outpatient physical therapy services at four out of its five hospitals -- WellStar Cobb, Douglas, Windy Hill and Kennestone hospitals -- and is looking into expanding those services to WellStar Paulding Hospital, perhaps as soon as this summer.
Chet Walden of Atlanta-based Walden Businesses, Inc., served as an adviser to OrthoSport during the acquisition.
