SCIFIT® Launches Multi-Plane Resistance Trainer

Print ArticleEmail Article

TULSA, OK -- SCIFIT® announces the release of The Function C3, which provides three compound movements commonly found in rehabilitation, exercise and sports training: terminal knee extension, compound core flexion and compound trunk extension.

The SCIFIT uses multi-plane resistance to emphasize these movements and maximize the benefits for the patient and the pre-habilitation athlete. The slow, controlled movements provide a better quality of work at a lower level of resistance for safer exercise and better results.

"Multi-plane resistance gets the patient out of the dominant plane," said Andy Baxter, medical exercise specialist and the inventor of the Function C3. "Often we mask things with speed and momentum. The Function C3 teaches better mechanics." The Function C3 is ideal for knee, hip and back patients, pre-surgery and post-surgery patients and for prevention of injury in athletes.

"With the terminal knee extension, the patient is driving the knee back in the horizontal plane; this is the dominant pattern," explains Baxter. "The patient is also driving the heel down in the vertical plane." This movement is ideal for prevention of ACL injuries, especially for young athletes participating in explosive sports such as baseball, basketball, volleyball and soccer.

The compound core flexion movement contributes to total core/spine stability and health. This exercise is ideal for hip and back patients and athletes who emphasize rotational movements.

The compound trunk extension is a good movement for hip and back patients and can be a safe and effective replacement for the stiff legged deadlift. The load is displaced when the hips are pulled back, maintaining a neutral combined center of gravity (CCOG) and reducing shear in the lumbosacral region.

In addition to the three main movements, several prehabilitation exercises can be performed on the Function C3. Prehabilitation strengthens and conditions vulnerable or injury-prone areas to help prevent injury, addressing tightness of muscle groups, imbalances of strength and muscle stabilization. Pre-surgery prehab often results in quicker recovery and shorter rehabilitation times. In sports performance, prehab targets common injuries and strength imbalances that occur in athletes.

Other features of the SCIFIT Function C3 include a solid steel platform, LifelineUSA resistance tubes, adjustable hip and knee belts to accommodate users of different heights and the Bio-Flex™ foot bed system that can be easily removed to provide a flat surface.

The optional HUMAC360 by CSMI is a visual feedback device measuring velocity and distance of the patients' movements. "When the user can see the pacing of the exercise they can perform slow, controlled movements," commented Baxter. "These controlled movements produce a higher quality of work with less resistance. It's much safer and produces better innervations and better results."

Integrating the HUMAC 360 with the Function C3 expands the treatment capabilities for clinicians and trainers and provides documentation to track improvement. The HUMAC360 also comes with a balance system featuring clinical grade accuracy. The balance system is designed for patients working on balance and fall prevention. Orthopedic patients focusing on weight shifts and loads will also benefit, with the visual feedback screen indicating weight distribution in all directions. The HUMAC Balance System features several measurement tests, training protocols and games.

The HUMAC360 and HUMAC Balance System feedback is captured on the optional commercial touch-screen computer with height-adjustable cart.

In addition to the Function C3, SCIFIT produces a complete line of cardiovascular fitness equipment and programs, including upper body and all body exercisers and their exclusive Fit-Key® software, that meet the needs of a wide range of individuals served by the health care and fitness industry worldwide.
